Ever have an experience that felt surreal, as though you’d been suddenly transported into the twilight zone, where time seemed to warp, perhaps slowing down or speeding up? Tell us all about it. If you haven’t had an experience in real life that you can draw from, write a fictional account of a surreal experience.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us SURREAL.

Funny that this is the prompt today. I just woke up and I can’t tell you how surreal my dream felt. I woke up originally around 9:30am because of my alarm. Then, I did what any sane person would do, I hit snooze and went right back to sleep. I have no memory of what happened next but I do remember getting up around 10am to use the bathroom. I remember walking out and trying to get to my closet to start getting changed for the day ahead and instead, I ended up in my hometown. My mother worrying about me because I had not left for my apartment yet. Otherwise, it was going to be dark and she hates knowing that I’m driving long distance across west Texas at night. She has good reason to do so. There’s only about 2-4 gas stations in a certain area for about a good 75 mile radius. Perhaps, there’s more but I just have not seen them because I don’t want to stop in this specific area. Have you not heard of Jeepers Creepers. I will not be picked into pieces.

I arose from my dream thinking that it must be around 10:15am. The chilly wind outside only added more to this illusion. The light howling of the wind as it hit the cars caused the lightest thumping sound. I quickly looked at my cell phone to realize that it was indeed about 12:30pm. I remember thinking well, I’m officially more than late now.

The next thing I remember is apparently and for some odd reason, I have a child. [side note: in real life, I’m no where near close to this stage. I don’t even have a significant other in my life or someone I could call that] For some odd reason, this child can’t live with me and then it was just sad. I do know that there’s more to this story than I can remember. I woke up next and it’s 5:15pm.

I officially slept the whole day but I’m uber relaxed right now and a bit hungry. I feel like I can eat an entire large pizza all by myself but I’m debating whether that’s really the smart choice.

I wonder if this slowed time warp will continue throughout the rest of the day or will time be much faster now. On the bright side of this twilight zone, it’s only Friday and thank goodness, I have two whole days to make up for missing today. It just means no fun but I do believe it will be worth going through this time warp. What a surreal experience!
