“Late Evening”

The birds chirp outside my window

I awake to greet the fresh morning air

Only to find that it’s way later and

The birds are finding their ways home now

The man walking the dog looks tired and

Wears disheveled clothing and lags as if

He’s ready to call it a day now

Me, on the other hand, I sit wide awake

Thinking of all that I’ve missed out on

A beautiful and clear blue sky with the

Wind blowing just right as to not give chills

But enough to not make you sweat

I can smell the rain in the aftermath

And wish I could see it all again

Oh, how I loathe myself for not sleeping on time

All I had to do was turn the lights out but I couldn’t

The darkness engulfs me at night but even the

Smallest light won’t do the trick
